Goldfish Care Information

A heater is also necessary, because tropical fish need warm water. Generally a temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit is acceptable for most fish. Temperatures over 85 degrees Fahrenheit can be a breeding ground for bacteria.

You know how fish smell when they are dead. They can get a strong scent when they are in your aquarium too – the general filth and dirt will do this. Unchecked, it may eventually kill your fish – the water becomes toxic. The solution again here is the filter – change it regularly. You may be tempted to wait until you smell that ugly whiff before you change it, but don’t wait – change it once a month.

The Megaflow Sump filters are noiseless and efficiently clean both fresh and salt water tanks. The salt water fish tank filter is available in so many varieties that it is difficult for the fish lover to choose the best. Of late the EHEIM canister filters have reaped satisfying results. They come in a package that is easy to set up and the filter has a filtration process that includes three stages of biological, mechanical and chemical purification. Its unique feature is the multi purpose handle and the patent pending technology that has been used.

The Hagen AquaClear 70 Aquarium Whisper Aquarium Filters is made of plastic. At first I was a bit hesitant, because the plastic does feel very thin, and not very durable. I imagine that if you hit into it with a foreign object (God know why you’d do that, or how, but I’m sure statistics will say it could be done), the filter would break.

Most people decide to set up an aquarium without a heater, this might be OK for a Betta fish or goldfish but most species like African Cichlids, tetras, guppies, saltwater fish are sensitive to temperature fluctuations. Installing a heater will minimise stress and keep the a constant temperature.

To correct the problem of the sunlight, I put up bamboo shades that allow filtered sunlight into the room without my ever having to open them. Since the only view from this window is the street and sidewalk, not opening this shade ever again is not a problem. (Additionally, you may plan to put a Mylar screen on the backside of the tank to keep out extra sun.) The result is that my fish well receive nice filtered sunlight without being in direct sunlight. This will mimic sunlight filtering down through the leaves of trees to a mountain creek bed, which is what they would have in the wild. They well enjoy that.

The first thing I should point out is that Goldfish live up to 20 years or more, if well cared for and living in good conditions. The second thing I must point out is that Goldfish get up to 10 inches or more.
