Buying Your First Goldfish Tank

Discus fish come from the calm warm waters of the Amazon River and prosper when these conditions are replicated in the home aquarium. For both general maintenance and breeding of discus the pH should be maintained between 5.5 and 7.0, the temperature between 83 and 86 degrees F.

One of the most common pitfalls in setting up an aquarium is placing to many fish in one fish tank. Overcrowding and overfeeding is the number one cause of fish death. The rule is 1inch of fish per gallon of water. Crowding an aquarium can cause fish waste to build up quickly, creating lack of oxygen and disease. Maintaining a low number of inhabitants will lead to a cleaner and healthier environment. If you plan on setting up an aquarium always go with a larger size.

Add your fish. If everything is working properly your ready to put the most important little stress reliever inside, your type of fish that you want to keep will complete it all. Float your new fish while still in the bag they came in for about 15 minutes to reduce stress to your fish.

Give them a filter that is rated for twice your tank volume. In other words, if you have a hang on type Whisper Aquarium Filters and you have a 20 gallon aquarium for your goldfish, get a Whisper Aquarium Filters rated for 40 gallons or larger. Goldfish eat frequently and get kind of messy so an over-rated filter is a must.

There can be many causes for this, overfeeding is the most common. When you feed, make sure that everything is consumed within 3 to 5 minutes and only feed twice each day, three maximum. Some aquarists go so far as to say only feed once daily and if any food hits the bottom of the tank you are overfeeding!

The media baskets are instrumental in obstructing water flowing to the wrong places. With well interlocked media baskets the chances of cleansing are reduced to a great extent. One cleaning in 3 to 6 months would be enough. The tank filter comes with the media basket fittings and the various valves. The other advantage of the filter is that the input and output water pipes have a swivel capacity of 360 degrees so that filling in fresh water and draining out used water can be done without a hassle. Not just this, the o- ring that is integrated to the filter with a silicone base makes sure that there is no leakage of water during the process of filtration.

Water quality is vitally important, not only for the amount of water changes you will have to make, but also for the health of your turtle, to prevent diseases.
